Tubular type membrane module
Tubular type membrane modules are pipe-shaped separation membrane modules with relatively wide flow paths. Its shape characteristics make them ideal for solid-liquid separation of highly concentrated feed water. In addition, they are widely used in various fields including human waste treatment and wastewater treatment. The tubular type membrane modules of DAICEN MEMBRANE-SYSTEMS offer a product lineup of 3 types: UF membrane (ultrafiltration membrane), NF membrane (nanofilter membrane), and RO membrane (reverse osmosis membrane) spectrums.
Mechanism
Tubular type membrane modules pack 18 separation membranes. There are 2 types of modules: one is the “series type” in which 18 membranes are connected inside the module, and the other is the “parallel type” in which 18 membranes form independent flow paths.
Each separation membrane module has a three-layer structure consisting of a membrane, a cylindrical support tube, and a pressure-resistant tube. The separation membrane is applied to the inside of the cylindrical support tube with a diameter of 10 to 15 mm and a length of about 3 m. The membrane is covered with the pressure-resistant tube to increase its strength.
The filtration method is internal pressure filtration with cross flow filtration. Water or liquid permeates the membrane, passes through the cylindrical support tube, and flows out through the holes of the pressure-resistant tube. Compared with hollow fiber membrane modules and spiral type membrane modules, the feed water flow path is larger and therefore less likely to be blocked by direct filtration. The membrane module structure is suitable for concentration and separation.

Features of NF and RO membranes

These membranes can recover amino acids and low-molecular valuable substances such as heavy metals that pass through UF membranes, and are capable of desalination as well. - Uses hydrophilic cellulose acetate membranes (CA membranes)
Made with naturally derived materials and possessing high hydrophilicity, membrane contamination is unlikely to occur and a high treatment flow rate can be maintained. - Product lineup of 3 module types with different rejection rates and permeate flow rates

Physical cleaning is possible with sponge balls
Special sponge balls flowing through the feed water paths physically wash away contamination adhering to the membrane surfaces. Periodic cleaning prevents the formation of gel and cake layers and maintains a high filtration rate.
